Solarpunk Realism

Solarpunk Realism is my latest music project. The name is a play on Capitalist Realism, a term coined by Mark Fisher in 2009 to describe the underarching idea that it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism. Realism define what we can view as "realistic".

Solarpunk is a spectulative fiction genre and subculture that imagines utopian futures that blend together ecology, technology and social change. You can think of things like Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), Degrowth, urban/ rural foraging, The Ecology of Freedom by Murray Bookchin, One Straw Revolution by Masayoshi Fukuoka and Imagine 2200's collection of climate fiction.

Solarpunk Realism captures some of my feelings about our current moment.

C0MPU73R D347H is a compilation of music, demos, and soundscapes that were backed up on the cloud before my computer died in late March 2023. Starting at 68 tracks, I narrowed it down to the best 16 (plus two bonus tracks). The sounds range from meditative, to groovy, to punchy, to warm, cold and deep. Lots of love went into this project and I’m glad that I can share it!
